Operation Atal

Engagement plays a crucial role in road safety. GoSafe has worked with the Welsh Fire and Rescue Service, Local Authorities and Welsh Police Forces to engage with the public since our inception.

Engagement sessions have been used to work with every road user group including motorcyclists, young/older drivers, cyclists, horse riders, and school children.

This is often done in combination with operational work at the roadside. People monitored driving above the speed limit or not wearing a seat belt are stopped by the police. They are then given an option of immediately attending an educational session with the Fire and Rescue Services or accepting a fixed penalty. This is currently a £100 on the spot fine for a seat belt offence or £100 and 3 points on your licence for a speeding offence.

Our teams have worked together to conduct vehicle safety checks, eye-sight tests, drink/drug impairment tests, and child car seat checks whilst carrying out the operations.

Operation Atal was developed to ensure consistency across Wales when delivering engagement sessions. The aim is to allow every community access to the same high standard of service and help make our roads safer for everyone.  Op Atal is focusing on speed on roads with 20mph, 30mph and 40mph speed limits, seat belts, and ensuring that child seats are fitted correctly.

We would urge anyone with a road safety concern to get in touch.
